A display of all-round excellence saw South Africa crush Australia by 98 runs in the opening match of their ODI series. From solid batting to lethal spin bowling, the Proteas were the superior team in every department.
The batting was led by Aiden Markram (82) and Temba Bavuma (65), who laid the foundation for a strong total of 8-296. A late cameo from Wiaan Mulder (31*) provided the finishing touches to a well-compiled innings.
The bowling was spearheaded by Keshav Maharaj, who produced a career-best performance of 5-33. His spell was the catalyst for a dramatic Australian collapse, as the hosts lost six wickets for 29 runs after a promising start.
Despite a valiant 88 from captain Mitch Marsh, Australia was never in the hunt after the collapse. They were eventually bowled out for 198, a result that reflected the Proteas’ dominance on the day.
