The 1985 attack, one of the deadliest in Canadian history, continues to serve as a stark reminder of the threats posed by terrorism and the importance of remembrance in preventing such tragedies in the future.
The devastating event occurred on June 23, 1985, when Air India Flight 182, also known as the Kanishka, was bombed mid-flight near Ireland. Tragically, all 329 passengers perished, including 268 Canadian citizens. This somber anniversary was commemorated with memorial services held in various locations, including Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Ahakista in Ireland, to honor those who lost their lives.
Prime Minister Carney outlined the Canadian government’s commitment to bolstering national security efforts and disrupting terrorist networks.
